Growing old with microbes
Everyone ages but not at the same rate. The microbiome is one of the determinants of healthy aging and is emerging as a biomarker of the difference between chronological age and biological age. The microbiome has a reciprocal relationship with the age of the host; it deteriorates as the host undergoes age-related physiological decline, while simultaneously it contributes to the aging process and agerelated diseases.
